Lead Product Designer - 12 Month FTC

Mojo Mortgages
Remote

About The Position

Mojo is a digital mortgage broker aiming to be the UK's largest and most disruptive. Backed by Uswitch, Money, Confused, and Zoopla, we are rapidly scaling and re-imagining the mortgage experience. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract where you will own an area from the start. There may be an opportunity for a permanent role after the contract, and we will be transparent about this throughout the process. This senior role within our Product Team involves owning a significant area of the product in the UK fintech space. The work spans both customer-facing aspects and the software used by internal experts. A key focus is the intersection between these two worlds, where changes can impact tens of thousands of customers. This role is primarily an individual contributor (IC) position, setting design standards and elevating other designers. You will collaborate directly with operational leaders, Heads of Mortgages, Protection, and Case Management, and the Ops Director, rather than a traditional Product Manager. This requires creating direction rather than waiting for a brief.

Requirements

  • Ability to create clarity from ambiguity, identifying problems and building systems to solve underlying issues rather than just symptoms.
  • Skill in bringing operational stakeholders and leadership to consensus on decisions.
  • Experience working in an AI-native environment, with a track record of testing with real users and advisors.
  • Fast-paced approach, including testing strategy through building.
  • 8+ years in product/UX design, with proven experience as a senior IC in SaaS or a complex product environment.
  • Breadth of experience across UX, service, content, and interaction design.
  • Comfort and experience in operational and internal-tools design.
  • AI fluency, both in work processes and in identifying valuable AI applications.
  • Commercial fluency, understanding how a mortgage business operates and generates revenue, and applying this to design trade-offs.

Nice To Haves

  • Pure UI specialist experience may be underutilized.
  • Skepticism towards AI or treating it as someone else's responsibility is not suitable for this role.
  • Preference for only customer-facing UI work and resentment towards operational tasks is not suitable.
  • Expecting a fully-formed brief is not suitable.
  • Seeking a role with the same expectations as a Senior but at a higher pay band is not suitable.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design vision for an area of Mojo, ensuring its successful implementation across the customer journey, internal tools, and data visualization.
  • Balance AI automation with human expertise by defining where AI handles tasks like data gathering and document reading, and where human experts are involved to optimize the customer journey and advisor judgment.
  • Design user-friendly advisor tooling, including mid-call co-pilots, consoles, and dashboards, to reduce administrative effort and drive adoption.
  • Reshape the end-to-end mortgage journey from initial fact-finding to long-term retention by untangling workflows, resolving operational bottlenecks, and improving conversion rates through strategic automation.
  • Set the design standard for the team through the quality of shipped work.
  • Drive AI strategy both in team processes (e.g., using Claude Code for prototypes, dashboards, and design systems) and in the features presented to customers and advisors.
  • Help shape and maintain the growing design system.
