Lead Product Designer

illuminToronto, ON
CA$140,000 - CA$150,000Hybrid

About The Position

Reporting to the VP, Product and Design, we are hiring a Lead Product Designer to help shape the future of product design at illumin. As our new Lead Product Designer, you will play a key role in defining how our platform evolves by connecting experiences across products, establishing scalable design patterns, and helping teams navigate ambiguity with clarity and confidence. Leading a small team of Product Designers, you will drive the experience and interaction design behind sophisticated DSP workflows used by marketers to plan, execute, and optimize campaigns at scale. Working closely with Product Management and Engineering, you will translate complex business and technical requirements into intuitive, high-impact user experiences that influence both customer outcomes and product direction. This is a hybrid opportunity, working Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on-site in our downtown Toronto office. Our headquarters are located within minutes of St. Andrew and Union subway stations.

Requirements

  • The product design leadership. You have experience leading or mentoring Product Designers within a product-led environment and know how to balance hands-on design work with leadership responsibilities. You are comfortable providing feedback, leading design discussions and critiques, and helping elevate the quality of work across a team. You know how to guide conversations, challenge assumptions thoughtfully, and help teams move from ambiguity to clarity.
  • The systems thinking and product design expertise. You bring deep experience designing complex enterprise or B2B SaaS products, ideally within workflow-heavy or data-intensive environments. You think beyond individual features, understanding how products, workflows, and interaction patterns connect across a platform. Your portfolio demonstrates strong experience in interaction design, information architecture, UX systems thinking, and designing scalable user experiences that balance usability with business and technical needs.
  • The technical and design systems capability. You are highly proficient in Figma and experienced building and maintaining scalable design systems, shared component libraries, and consistent interaction patterns. You are comfortable creating wireframes, prototypes, and polished high-fidelity designs while collaborating closely with Engineering to ensure thoughtful implementation and technical feasibility.
  • The communication and collaboration skills. You thrive in highly collaborative, cross-functional environments and are confident working with Product Management, Engineering, and business stakeholders to shape solutions and influence product direction. You can clearly articulate design rationale, present ideas to leadership, ask thoughtful questions, and navigate differing perspectives while keeping user and business goals at the centre of decision-making.
  • The curiosity and adaptability. You are comfortable operating in fast-moving environments where priorities evolve and problem spaces are not always clearly defined. You are naturally curious, open to feedback, and motivated by continuous improvement. Whether exploring emerging technologies, refining workflows, or evolving design practices, you are always looking for better ways to solve problems and improve the user experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI-supported workflows, prototyping tools, or front-end technologies is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex product and systems design. You will lead the end-to-end design of sophisticated, workflow-heavy DSP experiences, from early discovery and problem definition through to execution and iteration. This includes shaping 0-to-1 initiatives, designing scalable interaction patterns, and connecting experiences across products to create intuitive, cohesive workflows for customers operating at scale.
  • Bring clarity to complex product challenges. Working closely with Product Management and Engineering, you will help teams navigate ambiguity, challenge assumptions, and turn complex business and technical requirements into thoughtful, user-centred solutions. You will contribute to roadmap discussions, influence product direction, and confidently communicate design rationale and trade-offs to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
  • Lead and elevate design practices. As the lead for a small team of Product Designers, you will mentor and support individual contributors while remaining highly hands-on in the work. You will lead critiques and collaborative design discussions, help raise the quality bar across the team, and contribute to hiring, onboarding, and the continued evolution of the design function.
  • Drive consistency and scalability across the platform. You will own and evolve the design system, establishing scalable patterns, shared component libraries, and consistent interaction models that improve usability and create greater alignment across products and teams. You will also champion research, usability testing, and data-informed decision-making to ensure design solutions are grounded in real customer needs and behaviours.
