Lead Process Engineer - Water Market

Kiewit•Arvada, CO
•$140,000 - $190,000•Hybrid

About The Position

We are hiring Lead Process Engineers to drive the technical development, design integration, and execution of municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment projects across North America. In this role, you will serve as the process discipline lead on pursuits and projects, guide treatment process selection, develop process design packages, and coordinate with mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, and construction teams to deliver safe, cost-effective, and constructible solutions. This position is suited to an engineer with 10 or more years of municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment experience who thrives in a design-build/EPC environment, enjoys solving complex treatment challenges, and translates process engineering into practical, field-ready designs. Our Process team supports water and wastewater treatment work across the business. Projects may use chemical, physical, and/or biological treatment technologies, including coagulation and flocculation, filtration, UF/RO, chemical precipitation of metals, chemical oxidation and reduction, oil/water separation, and biological or biosolids treatment such as thermal hydrolysis and advanced anaerobic digestion. Work spans municipal and industrial water, petroleum and oil and gas, chemical, power, renewable gas, and data center markets. This is an opportunity to lead teams and projects and contribute to our growing Water/Wastewater division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, or Civil/Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in process development and conceptual and detailed design, with a background in municipal and industrial water/wastewater markets and the responsibilities described above.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local regulations and requirements related to water characterization, treatment, and discharge.
  • Willingness and availability to accommodate intermittent travel of approximately 25% when based in a Kiewit office in Lenexa or Lone Tree. Candidates in remote locations may travel up to 40%.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
  • Experience as a process design engineering lead on design-build projects preferred.
  • Preferred experience with AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent) and/or process modeling and simulation software such as BioWin, GPS-X, HYSYS, Aspen, WatPro, AqMB, or SIMBA.
  • Strongly preferred: water-treatment design experience in oil and gas and data center projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and engineering leadership for industrial water and wastewater facility design, including treatment process evaluation, selection, and optimization.
  • Evaluate full-scale plant operations, pilot studies, and bench studies as required, and identify and evaluate process lifecycle costs.
  • Oversee and participate in engineering reports, drawings, and specifications for complex water/wastewater projects, including PFDs, P&IDs, process simulations, datasheets, and engineering calculations such as hydraulics and equipment sizing.
  • Perform process systems and hydraulics modeling and scenario studies.
  • Resolve technical issues associated with design, construction, equipment, and operations.
  • Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams within budget and schedule to execute project design and engineering.
  • Interface with clients and partner engineers to support project and business development, deliver project work, and develop long-term relationships.
  • Attend client development activities and functions.
  • Coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Provide consultation in specialized areas related to treatment plant planning and design.
  • Communicate and present industry trends, competitive situations, and technology or regulatory issues.
  • Support business development and pursuit of new projects; contribute to client proposals and project cost estimates.
