As we deliver our ambitious 2030 Growth Strategy, we're looking for a Lead Process Development Scientist to join our Pharma Solutions team in Alabaster, Alabama. This role is responsible for leading process development, scale-up, and technology transfer activities for liquid phase peptide synthesis projects, supporting the successful commercialization of new products across pharmaceutical and beauty active applications.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
Eight (8) + years of plant and process development experience within fine chemical manufacturing.
Proven experience with process development, scale-up, and commercial technology transfer.
Demonstrated experience scaling products from laboratory development through commercial manufacturing.
Strong background in synthetic organic chemistry techniques.
Working knowledge of analytical techniques including HPLC, UPLC, LCMS, NMR, and GCMS.
Experience managing technology transfers across manufacturing sites.
Understanding of process safety, manufacturing operations, and commercialization requirements.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong project management and organizational abilities.
Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, result-driven environment.
Willingness to travel occasionally to support technology transfer and manufacturing activities at other sites.

Nice To Haves

Experience with peptide synthesis is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with R&D scientists on the development and technology transfer of liquid phase peptide synthesis processes.
Partner with global teams to support internal and external projects involving peptide synthesis process development and new product development.
Perform organic synthesis experiments and analytical characterization activities.
Lead technology transfer activities and provide technical support for commercial peptide manufacturing processes.
Troubleshoot process development challenges in collaboration with R&D scientists and manufacturing teams.
Review experimental data and prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and laboratory documentation.
Communicate project progress, results, and technical recommendations to management and cross-functional teams.
Coordinate activities with multidisciplinary teams across global locations and business units.
Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN) and ensure compliance with company documentation standards.
Support laboratory operations through safe work practices, equipment calibration, inventory management, facility upkeep, and preventative maintenance activities.
Contribute technical expertise to high-impact global projects that support Croda's growth strategy.
