About The Position

Consulting Services, a part of GE Vernova, offers global clients a wide range of solutions across the entire spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization. The Grid Integration and Stability (GIS) practice area within Consulting Services focuses on power system studies, including shunt and series compensations, FACTS, HVDC, synchronous condensers, STATCOMs, and power plant and transmission system dynamic controls. The team utilizes leading power system simulation software and has deep experience in voltage control, reactive planning, steady state, voltage and transient stability studies, renewable generation impacts, sub-synchronous resonance, and torsional and control interactions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or electric power engineering or related field of study and minimum three (3) years of industry experience performing transient analysis using simulation tools like PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP and steady state and dynamic analysis using large data base simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSLF and DSATools i.e., PSAT, TSAT and SSAT.
  • Three (3) years of industry experience with the use and application of common programming languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB, FORTRAN).
  • OR Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, electric power engineering, or related field of study – no industry experience is required with this qualification.
  • Strong background in power system analysis.
  • Solid understanding of inverter-based resources (control system) design and application considerations with experience developing user-defined models.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced experience in creating and modifying dynamic user models in simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory, DSATools i.e., PSAT, TSAT and SSAT and PSLF is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE Vernova and customer/plant staff).
  • Advanced experience with steady state and dynamic analysis using large data base simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSLF and use of programming languages like C and C++ is a plus.
  • Experience in electromagnetic transient simulation tools like PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP.
  • Advanced experience with dynamic and time-domain simulation tools (e.g. FORTRAN programming of user-written models in PSCAD (“black box” models) and in EMTP as well as PSS/E, use of Python/MATLAB scripting to automate execution and analysis of multiple simulations).
  • Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems.
  • IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to power systems engineering topics, participation in industry standards working groups.
  • Experience with Data Center related studies is a plus.
  • Project management experience.
