About The Position

The Lead Porter's main objective is to provide building maintenance and safety to the office, staff, and residents at The Monument, an emergency capacity site providing transitional housing to single adults experiencing homelessness. This role involves conducting daily routine cleaning of all interior and exterior grounds. The porters report directly to the Superintendent, ensuring the building is up to code. The Monument offers on-site services including case management, entitlement assistance, meals, recreation, and 24/7 front desk security and staffing.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in custodial, cleaning work is required.
  • Must undergo funder required background check.
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Ability to track inventory and place orders.
  • Frequent standing, bending, lifting to 50lbs.
  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift (aside from breaks).

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial property cleaning experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to make basic repairs.
  • Basic computer skills (email, excel spreadsheets).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead to all porters when the Super is off-site at other buildings.
  • Communicate directly to the Program Director and Assistant Program Director on any building emergencies or projects.
  • Ensure porters are completing assigned tasks throughout the day.
  • Keep the Super up to date on building status.
  • Follow a daily checklist of tasks each shift to ensure the cleanliness of the building.
  • Sanitize and deep clean high-touch areas at a high frequency.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms.
  • Collect building garbage and recycling, and bring bins to the sidewalk on designated days and times.
  • Sweep, mop, and clean up the cafeteria after every meal.
  • Sweep and mop the lobby area.
  • Ensure the front of the building is clean and presentable, free of debris and garbage.
  • Shovel and apply salt during seasonal days.
  • Help to maintain the building free of pests and vermin.
  • Alert the Super to inventory needs and when the building is running low on cleaning supplies.
  • Work collaboratively with building staff to assist residents and ensure continuous deep cleaning and sanitation of the building with special attention to high-touch areas, such as light switches, door handles, countertops, handrails, elevator buttons, faucet handles, etc.
  • Turnover of rooms: clean and prepare units after a resident’s discharge to ensure it is ready for the next occupant.
  • Assist the Super with light repairs as needed.
  • Update and maintain cleaning log.
  • Keep storage areas clean and free of litter and clutter.
  • Perform other tasks/projects as assigned.
