This role sits at the intersection of OT controls, SCADA, and enterprise data, deploying Ignition SCADA, Rockwell Automation PLCs, and open industrial protocols to provide visibility into mechanical plants, electrical distribution, and power quality. We are seeking lead-level PLC/SCADA Engineers with strong technical judgment, systems thinking, and the ability to design solutions that are maintainable long-term. As a Lead PLC/SCADA Engineer, you will be a technical authority for data center automation and electrical power monitoring systems, leading the design of Ignition-based SCADA platforms integrated with Rockwell PLC control systems, electrical power monitoring devices, and third-party subsystems. You will influence system modeling, data flow, and operator interaction with critical infrastructure across single sites and multi-site portfolios. This role involves technical ownership, cross-disciplinary influence, and mentorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of Controls industry experience OR Associate Degree with 6+ years of Controls industry experience OR High School Diploma OR GED with 8+ years of Controls industry experience.
  • 4+ years of experience designing and supporting SCADA and control systems in live facilities
  • 4+ years of Rockwell Automation PLC experience with ControlLogix / CompactLogix platforms
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Responsibilities

  • Structured tag models and UDT standards
  • Alarm philosophy, prioritization, and suppression strategies
  • Historian strategy, data fidelity, and performance
  • Gateway topology, redundancy, and failover behavior
  • Define and integrate Rockwell Automation PLC architectures (ControlLogix / CompactLogix) for: Mechanical plant systems, Electrical distribution and EPMS, Generator, UPS, and switchgear monitoring
  • Establish integration strategies using open protocols: BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, SNMP
  • Partner with IT/Network teams to design secure, segmented OT networks (VLANs, routing boundaries, gateway placement).
  • Lead technical decisions around scalability, redundancy, and fault tolerance in Tier III / Tier IV-style environments.
  • Develop and review system architecture documentation, control philosophies, and sequences of operation.
  • Guide and review Ignition Vision / Perspective designs, ensuring graphics prioritize operations, diagnostics, and clarity.
  • Support FAT, SAT, integrated testing, and commissioning activities, including troubleshooting emergent system behaviors.
  • Identify technical risk early, protocol limitations, vendor quirks, performance bottlenecks, and ability to design around them.
  • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, setting expectations for code quality, modeling discipline, and documentation.
  • Act as a technical voice in customer discussions, helping set realistic expectations and defend sound engineering decisions.
