The Lead Phlebotomist supervises the phlebotomy staff, coordinates daily workflow, performs specific activities as necessary in the hospital and laboratory environment, venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently, as well as ensures compliance with laboratory policies, safety regulations, and quality standards. Assist technical staff as needed to maintain the process flow. Has thorough knowledge of test requirements; Verifies accuracy of specimen/ patient identifiers ensures the use of correct tube type for the appropriate test Sets up waived testing, records results and reports those normal interfaced results. Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining clean benches and work areas. Help with inventory and assist with phlebotomy supply ordering. Assists with inspecting and receiving new supplies/reagents, having full understanding of raw materials. Rotates old to front and stocks those as they come in. Rely on gained lab experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks. Is self-sufficient, critical thinker and understands when needs to refer matters to the technical staff.
