This position will be responsible to perform routine blood drawing procedures including but not limited to proper collection of venous and capillary specimens. Responsible for registration of blood screening documents. Maintain flow of work orders. Conduct periodic audit of blood culture techniques utilized. Coordinate phlebotomy staff, delegate outstanding work assignments and interface with nursing services to resolve patient order issues or concerns. The lead phlebotomist will assist the Lab Director and Phlebotomy Supervisor with training of new staff, assessment of phlebotomy competency, education on departmental policy, and complete problem reports for patient collections. Monitor the effectiveness of staff training, perform and train new hires on patient registration, and may serve as the Lab liaison on selected hospital workgroups. Serve as specimen courier as needed.
