The Lead Phlebotomist works to coordinate the work of designated personnel in addition to fulfilling phlebotomy duties. This role involves assisting in coordinating shift staffing, acting as a technical expert and initial shift resource, performing invasive procedures, and contributing to the development of departmental workflows. The Lead Phlebotomist also provides superior customer service, accurately interprets physician orders, and handles specimens to ensure high quality and timely results. Proficiency is required in various areas including the Emergency Department, Processing, Inpatient, and Outpatient Phlebotomy. The role also includes patient registration, specimen identification, infection prevention, and utilizing laboratory and hospital information systems.
