About The Position

Raytheon’s Antenna, Microwave, and E3 Department is seeking an electrical engineer to work on hardware development and integration involving mixed digital, power and control, RF/microwave, and Active Electronically Steered Antenna (AESA) technologies. The role supports subsystem validation, integration and test, and transition to production of advanced receiver and exciter hardware and firmware used in complex AESAs. The engineer will design phased array antenna systems using active and passive microwave components and analog-to-digital RF subassemblies. The position also involves supporting module builds and testing, developing phased array integration skills, and contributing to near-field and radar far-field range testing. The role is onsite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and requires an active, transferable U.S. government Secret clearance before starting. U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • At least 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with advanced microwave principles and analysis, design, and testing of microwave/RF systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Experience validating requirements from component and module levels through phased array system level.
  • Experience with MATLAB and Linux data processing related to microwave engineering, microwave systems, electromagnetic theory, and radar systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a complex engineering team.
  • Solid understanding of hardware testing methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with microwave testing techniques using spectrum analyzers, Real-time Spectrum Analyzers (RSAs), Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), and Performance Network Analyzers (PNAs).
  • Active and transferable U.S. government security clearance required before the start date; the specified clearance is DoD Secret.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience allocating and flowing down radar requirements from system to component level.
  • Metrology skills in one or more areas involving microwave components or antenna far-field/near-field measurements.
  • Background designing analog CCAs, including frequency conversion, automatic gain control, amplifier design, and analog filter design.
  • Knowledge of cost estimating, budget management, and schedule management.
  • Knowledge of IFF Interrogators and AIM 1210 certification standards.
  • Experience generating cascade analysis and frequency planning.
  • Experience with I/Q signal processing analysis in MATLAB, C/C++, Python, or other programming languages.
  • Working knowledge of C/C++ and/or scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, or Python.
  • Experience operating Identify Friend or Foe (IFF) systems and subsystems.
  • Willingness to travel to local test sites and occasionally to domestic and international sites, less than 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Design phased array antenna systems, including active and passive microwave components and analog-to-digital RF subassemblies.
  • Lead others by understanding team dynamics, using diverse team strengths, and mitigating gaps.
  • Lead trade studies to select solutions and plans for complex problems while considering quality, cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Communicate task status on complex issues and strategic plans across teams, programs, department, and customer leadership.
  • Provide engineering support for module builds and testing, including performance validation and investigations.
  • Train on the Phased Array Pilot Array and develop near-field range phased array integration skills.
  • Support Near Field Range (NFR) testing.
  • Support radar far-field range testing.
