About The Position

This is a full-time, day shift position at OhioHealth's brand-new Pharmacy Integrated Service Center (ISC) in Canal Winchester. The ISC will be responsible for distributing medications for all OhioHealth clinics and will also house a Pharmacy Learning Center. The Lead Pharmacy Technician role will evolve as the ISC functions, initially focusing on Operations and Compliance. A sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 is offered. Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or foreign school diploma equivalent to a U.S. high school diploma
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be registered as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
  • Must have a valid Certified Pharmacy Technician certification with PTCB or NHA
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a CPhT
  • Good interpersonal and verbal skills
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Technical knowledge of all pharmacy equipment, clean room equipment, chemotherapy processes, unit dose packaging, outpatient dispensing, and clerical and purchasing skills
  • Work requires a high school level of skills and good communication skills.
  • Work requires the ability to gather and interpret data in situations where the information or problems are not difficult or complex.
  • Work requires the ability to exchange information and explain instructions and/or procedures to employees, patients, and others.
  • Work involves following existing procedures and instructions, sometimes receiving assignments in the form of results expected, due dates and general procedures to follow.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous related experience is strongly preferred
  • Central fill type settings experience and related is preferred
  • Knowledge of compounding, pharmacy math skills, hospital pharmacy operations, medical terminology, and various drug names (trade generic).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the workflow for all pharmacy technicians and interns.
  • Collaborate with managers on interviewing, hiring decisions, training, evaluations, and maintenance of competency and time and attendance records.
  • Assist pharmacist staff in dispensing tasks, including compounding IV solutions; filling unit-dose carts, floor stock orders, technology dispensing equipment, and medication orders; and timely delivery of medications.
  • Serve as the lead liaison in robot and medication cabinet reporting and, in conjunction with department management, affect appropriate changes and routine adjustment and allocation processes as site technician leadership structure may require.
  • Provide lead direction for, and train pharmacy technicians, interns, medication couriers, volunteers, and students.
  • Support the Pharmacy Leadership team by overseeing and participating in daily operational task completion and referring appropriate personnel or technical issues to leadership.
  • Offer in-the-moment feedback to team members and provide sufficient documented feedback for pharmacy technician and intern evaluations; oversee the duties of designated pharmacy team members.
  • Understand all system/local policies and procedures regarding operational tasks in the pharmacy technician workflow.
  • Actively communicate changes in policies and procedures affecting pharmacy technician workflow.
  • Provide sufficient oversight to ensure adherence to safety practices and standards.
  • Actively participate in all regularly scheduled department leadership meetings.
  • Perform administrative functions under the supervision of the pharmacy department leadership team, such as preparing work schedules, scheduling/conducting/posting minutes for pharmacy technician meetings, audits, and collaborating with other healthcare personnel/departments.
  • Actively participate in and oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training process, including interviewing and hiring decisions, orienting, scheduling, and training associates.
  • Develop and present pharmacy technician in-services or training as appropriate.
  • Refer appropriate questions to pharmacists, including patient drug dose, route, or compatibility questions.

  • Maintain awareness of the daily overall status of the department pertaining to technician workflow and address operational gaps as appropriate.
