About The Position

Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, following standard procedures to accomplish assigned tasks. This role oversees the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy department and is responsible for assisting the supervising pharmacist with staff training and development, assigning tasks to ensure workload balance and completion, and ensuring consistent application of organizational policies. The Lead Pharmacy Technician assists the professional staff in triaging, processing, and delivering prescriptions to patients, managing pharmacy inventory and third-party receivables, and assisting in the hiring and training of new employees.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or currently enrolled) or GED
  • Intermediate to advanced understanding of pharmacy technology – included is product dispensing, data entry, and adjudication workflow steps
  • Proficient in inventory management including ordering & receiving processes, inventory freshness; proficient with return to stocks and cycle counting
  • Proficient in all state and federal regulations ensuring compliance with the law; understands and ensures we follow company operational policies & procedures
  • Able to learn and understand specific aspects of the pharmacy management system (i.e., reception and release to patient queues) as well as our POS system
  • Follows instructions and completes tasks with a sense of urgency
  • Understands and embraces the importance of our Quality Assurance Policy & Procedures
  • Understands and embraces all patient care programs and initiatives
  • Understands and embraces all policies and procedures
  • Accuracy with cash and related cash controls
  • Must stay current with all State and Federal requirements as well as corporate goals and initiatives
  • Responsible for completing all mandatory and regulatory training programs
  • Drug test
  • Initial and continuous exclusion and sanction/disciplinary monitoring
  • Any and all additional eligibility requirements based on the specific position

  • Registered with the State of Vermont as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Hospital or retail pharmacy experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy department.
  • Assists the supervising pharmacist with the training and development of staff.
  • Assigns tasks to ensure workload is balanced and completed.
  • Ensures consistent application of organizational policies.
  • Assists the professional staff in the triaging, processing and delivery of prescriptions to the patient.
  • Assists in the management of the Pharmacy Inventory and Third Party Receivables.
  • Assists in the hiring and training of new employees.
  • Assists the pharmacist in proper inventory management.
  • Answers telephones.
  • Manages inventory, including ordering, receiving, returns, outdates, and cycle counting.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations and company operational policies.
  • Executes the plan by learning and understanding the pharmacy management system and POS system.
  • Ensures that every prescription has been checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
  • Assists in the initial submission and resubmission of all third-party claims.
  • Locates prescription files and other manual records from storage.
  • Prepares and files manual records for pharmacist signatures and review.
  • Assists and oversees all aspects of pharmacy workflow from data entry to customer pickup.
  • Ensures all pharmacy staff provides quality customer service.
  • Stays current with all State and Federal requirements, corporate goals, and initiatives.
  • Completes all mandatory and regulatory training programs.
  • Assists the supervising pharmacist with monitoring and reporting quality assurance events.
  • Assists the supervising pharmacist with pharmacy inventory tasks such as returns, outdates, and transmission and receiving of all orders from our supplier.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
