About The Position

Responsible for supporting the safe, efficient, and compliant preparation and distribution of medications as well as advanced technical, operational, and functional leadership within the pharmacy under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Provides high-quality, patient-centered technical support services to ensure accurate medication preparation, packaging, and inventory control. Serves as a subject matter expert within a designated specialty or operational area and leads education within this area. In coordination with pharmacists, and technician leadership, assists with productivity oversight, onboarding and training of new staff, competency development, quality initiatives, and departmental projects. Anticipates, recognizes, and resolves complex operational and technical issues within the team, department, or customer care areas. Maintains active registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and national certification and fulfills all continuing education and competency requirements necessary to maintain registration throughout employment. Demonstrates professional conduct aligned with hospital and departmental mission, vision, and values. This position functions as an advanced technical leader to support all aspects of medication preparation and distribution services at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Duties include medication preparation and packaging; sterile and non-sterile compounding; inventory management; documentation; maintenance of medication storage and security standards; and other duties as permitted by Ohio Board of Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician IV assists pharmacists in ensuring accurate medication dispensing and regulatory compliance in accordance with Ohio Board of Pharmacy rules, state and federal regulations, USP standards as applicable, and institutional policies. This role supports both patient care and research protocols while promoting a safe and efficient medication-use system. The Pharmacy Technician IV also supports Pharmacy Technicians I–III, assists in productivity oversight, mentors new staff, and contributes to performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served, including completing any mandatory education requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Active OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Pharmacy Technician registration
  • Active PTCB/NHA certification
  • 2 years of relevant experience
  • Maintain Certified Pharmacy Technician status with Ohio Board of Pharmacy
  • Maintain active PTCB/NHA certification
  • Continue to meet departmental competency requirements
  • Continue to meet pharmacy standards of employee conduct
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served
  • Complete any mandatory education requirements
