About The Position

The Lead Patient Care Technician (PCT) supports high-quality patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse while serving as a key resource for unit operations. This role models professionalism, assists with workflow coordination, and reinforces established standards of care to ensure safe, efficient service across the lifespan. Serve as a role model and coach, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication. Support unit workflow, including shift-to-shift communication, prioritization, and coordination under RN direction. Train, orient, and mentor new and existing Patient Care Technicians, ensuring competency, consistency, and adherence to departmental standards. Support the development of other preceptors and contribute to a positive learning environment within the department. Assist with patient care activities such as oral care, bathing, toileting, feeding, mobility, and transport. Collect specimens (urine, stool, blood) and perform venipuncture per laboratory procedures. Perform blood glucose monitoring and record intake/output, vital signs, and patient observations. Document patient care activities and provide accurate handoff to oncoming staff. Provide one-to-one patient safety observation as assigned. Respond to emergency codes and assist with equipment checks. Maintain visibility on the unit and assist patients, families, and visitors as needed. Support a team-based approach to care and seek appropriate resources when necessary. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of applicable experience, including at least 18 months at Ellis.
  • Experience with nursing unit operations and medical terminology.
  • Completion of preceptor training.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Computer and documentation proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree.
  • One year of college coursework in a related field.
  • One year of relevant healthcare or related experience demonstrating strong communication skills.
  • Ability to support training of other preceptors.
  • CNA or Home Health Aide certification.

  • Pay is based on experience, skills, and education.
  • Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates.
  • The pay range may also vary within the state.
