About The Position

The Parasitology Lead helps supervise daily activities within the laboratory unit/group/area/department. This role involves performing routine testing, resolving pending lists, reporting technical quality assurance/quality control problems, and ensuring audits are performed and documented. The Lead also maintains organization of storage refrigerators, all equipment, and meets daily turnaround time (TAT) production requirements. They may perform duties of the supervisor in their absence and must read and follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures. The role requires maintaining a clean and organized work area, restocking supplies as needed, and performing other duties as assigned. Associates are expected to conduct themselves in an ethical manner and hold each other accountable to the organization's values and standards, asking questions, seeking guidance, and reporting concerns or violations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required, preferably in science-related field.
  • Training and teaching skills and ability.
  • Proven leadership, motivational and mediating abilities.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and direct work activities.
  • Proficiency in all testing and services for training personnel, including setting up, reading, and releasing test results and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Extensive laboratory skills and experience.
  • Reasoning and analytical skills to resolve issues.
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability to communicate information so others will understand.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
  • Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the supervision of department staff, monitoring activities and evaluating performance.
  • Provides coaching and guidance to staff and oversees staff training and development.
  • Provides input to department policies and procedures.
  • Assists in leading work activities of the lab unit/group/area/department, planning and organizing work, providing for adequate staffing and resources, and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained.
  • Contributes to maintenance of department diagnostic equipment and other technical resources.
  • Perform routine testing which may include fecal digestive, FEC, Baermann, C. difficile toxin, Cryptosporidium – Giardia IFA, occult blood, Parvovirus antigen and other miscellaneous testing.
  • Resolve pending list.
  • Reports and technical Quality Assurance/Quality Control problems to the Supervisor.
  • Ensure that Tech and Aide audits are performed and documented.
  • Maintain organization of storage refrigerator.
  • Maintain all equipment including hoods, centrifuges, etc.
  • Meet daily TAT production requirements.
  • Perform duties of the supervisor in their absence.
  • Reads and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
  • Maintains clean and organized work area.
  • Restocks supplies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
