About The Position

The Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH) at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is a nationally recognized leader in clinical care, research, and education related to Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and co-occurring psychological health conditions. MIBH provides specialized, evidence-based care to active-duty service members, Veterans, and first responders with persistent and complex symptoms following TBI. MIBH delivers care through a structured Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that includes comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and individualized treatment planning. Care is provided through a co-located interdisciplinary team model that integrates conventional Western medicine with evidence-based integrative therapies.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner degree from an accredited institution with specialization in: Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Physiatry, Psychiatry, Emergency
  • Current Colorado NP license
  • National certification by the appropriate American certifying body
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-training clinical experience
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary team-based settings

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with military populations, Veterans, and/or first responders, with demonstrated cultural competence
  • Demonstrated experience in Traumatic Brain Injury care
  • Clinical experience in one or more of the following areas: Neurology, Brain Injury Medicine, Sleep Medicine, Vestibular Disorders, Mental Health

Responsibilities

  • Lead high-level, evidence-based medical care within a co-located interdisciplinary Center of Excellence model
  • Manage conventional medical management with integrative and holistic treatment approaches
  • Contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven team focused on innovation, quality, and compassionate care
  • Provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to Veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders with TBI and co-occurring psychological health conditions
  • Develop, manage and implement individualized treatment plans addressing: Neurological symptoms (e.g., headaches, vestibular dysfunction, sleep disorders), Cognitive and behavioral symptoms, Psychiatric conditions related to emotional and operational trauma
  • Oversee and collaborate with specialty services as needed
  • Communicate and coordinate care with referring providers
  • Participate in Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) rounds, Clinical Decision Team conferences, Discharge Care Conferences (DCC) and debriefs
  • Participate in clinical decision-making regarding additional evaluations, including sleep consultations/studies, neuroimaging, and medical workups
  • Lead crisis management and urgent medical evaluations (e.g., uncontrolled hypertension, chest pain, stroke-like symptoms, substance withdrawal, severe migraine)
  • Support the Behavioral Health team with management of trauma-informed care, including discussions related to suicidal and homicidal ideation
  • Responsible for building and sustaining collaborative relationships with CU Anschutz campus and departments, UCHealth Avalon Action Alliance, and other institutional and community partners
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical management programs, and accreditation and compliance standards
  • Assist with program analytics, quality metrics, and development of value-based and risk-based care models
  • Assist with development and implementation of strategic goals related to quality improvement, management programs, and accreditation standards
  • Participate in educational programming, lectures, and training sessions within MIBH
  • Support educational initiatives for the University of Colorado, community partners, and the Avalon Action Alliance
  • Support ongoing clinical research and scholarly activity at MIBH
  • Engage with and support the needs of the Nurse Practitioner’s faculty home department
