About The Position

The Lead Nurse Practitioner provides clinical leadership, primary and emergency medical care, operational medical oversight, and healthcare support services for the Ascension Island medical clinic under the V2X program. The incumbent serves as the on-island medical lead when designated by the Medical Director and is responsible for supporting 24/7 medical readiness, patient care operations, emergency response capability, and clinical oversight within a remote and austere operational environment. The Lead Nurse Practitioner provides acute, chronic, preventive, occupational, and emergency medical services while ensuring compliance with applicable U.S. Federal, Department of Defense (DoD), Air Force, and V2X medical standards and operational requirements supporting the Ascension Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF) mission.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Graduate of an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Trauma and/or Emergency Room experience required.
  • Current unrestricted U.S. Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) certification.
  • Current DEA registration, if applicable.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of emergency medicine, primary care, occupational health, and trauma stabilization practices.
  • Knowledge of remote medical operations, emergency response procedures, and austere environment healthcare delivery.
  • Familiarity with AFI 44-102, operational medicine standards, and fit-for-duty requirements.
  • Ability to independently assess, diagnose, treat, and stabilize patients in isolated operational environments.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary medical teams during emergency and contingency operations.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to function effectively in high-stress and emergency situations.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and healthcare administrative systems.
  • Ability to work in clinical, operational, and emergency response environments.
  • Capability to function effectively within remote or austere island conditions.
  • Ability to respond to medical emergencies, disaster response situations, and contingency operations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move medical equipment and assist patients during emergency operations.
  • Must meet all medical, security, credentialing, and deployment requirements per contract and V2X policy.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required access credentials and base access authorization.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel internationally as required.
  • Ability to comply with all Ascension Island operational, environmental, and safety requirements.
  • Must maintain professional conduct, clinical readiness, and operational readiness standards required for overseas contingency operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three (3) years of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting emergency medicine, occupational medicine, urgent care, or operational medicine environments preferred.
  • Experience supporting healthcare operations in remote, overseas, military, or austere environments preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting government healthcare contracts or operational medicine environments preferred.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
  • Trauma-related certifications preferred (TNCC, ATLS, or equivalent).

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive medical care, diagnosis, treatment, stabilization, and preventive healthcare services for authorized personnel assigned to Ascension Island operations.
  • Serve as the on-island medical lead and primary medical point of contact when designated by the Medical Director.
  • Maintain operational medical readiness and support 24/7 emergency medical coverage requirements as required for AAAF operations.
  • Provide emergency response, trauma assessment, stabilization, and coordination of advanced medical care and MEDEVAC operations as required.
  • Support medical operations involving life, limb, or eyesight emergencies within the limits of on-island medical capability.
  • Coordinate with paramedics, laboratory personnel, off-island medical providers, and external agencies to ensure continuity of patient care and operational medical support.
  • Support implementation and compliance with the AAAF Medical Care Plan in coordination with the Medical Director and V2X leadership.
  • Support fit-for-duty evaluations, return-to-work determinations, and occupational medical assessments in accordance with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Ensure medical documentation, patient records, treatment plans, and operational reports are maintained in accordance with applicable standards and privacy requirements.
  • Assist with medical oversight, clinical quality assurance activities, infection prevention, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Support emergency preparedness planning, mass casualty response readiness, and contingency medical operations.
  • Coordinate after-hours medical response support for emergencies and urgent care requirements due to the remote nature of Ascension Island operations.
  • Support medical supply accountability, medication control procedures, and operational medical logistics activities.
  • Participate in inspections, audits, credentialing reviews, and corrective action processes as required.
  • Maintain communication with the Medical Director, V2X leadership, government representatives, and supporting medical agencies regarding operational medical matters.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable AFI 44-102 standards, DEA requirements, and current standards of medical practice.
