About The Position

The Lead MRI Technologist operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by Radiologist. Under the direction of the Site Director or Site Manager, directs, leads, and assigns work to MRI Technologists, and assists Site Director or Manager with other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Certificate of completion of MRI technical training from an AMA-approved institution.
  • At least five years of staff technologist experience; lead experience preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical procedures, safety rules, government regulations, schedules, and operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Current American Registry of Radiologic Technology Advanced MR certification (MR) OR American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) certification.
  • Current CPR/BLS certificate (Healthcare Provider).
  • Advanced Venipuncture Techniques for Contrast Media Administration.
  • Optional: Current American Registry of Radiologic Technology (RT). Current State of California Radiologic Technology certification (CRT)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures staff complies with Joint Commission and CDPH standards.
  • Responds to minor patient concerns and refers significant concerns to Manager or Director for response and inclusion in patient log.
  • Coordinates training for hardware and software upgrades.
  • Works with Site Director or Manager and Medical Director on timely ACR accreditation preparation and submission.
  • Acts as liaison with referring physician offices through personal interaction with staff and physicians.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems, arranges repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinates patient flow to maximize productivity.
  • Runs statistical reports using appropriate tools.
  • Oversees employees during Director or Manager's absence.
  • Calculates and prepares payroll and attendance reports, including monitoring overtime and PTO usage, and forwards to Director or Manager for approval.
  • Prepares and/or coordinates employee schedules to include PTO coverage.
  • Completes draft of performance appraisal and forwards to Director or Manager for input and/or approval and participates in appraisal interview.
  • Screens resume for prospective employees, conducts phone and personal interviews and assists with selection of final candidate.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and ensures appropriate cost controls, orders medical supplies, tracks inventory, reconciles invoices and packing slips and forwards to Director or Manager.
  • Maintains appropriate policies and procedures manuals, alerts Director or Manager of updates and monitors staff adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Checks and reviews studies for quality and provide feedback to technologists as needed.
  • Interviews patient, explains procedures, prepares patient for exam, screens patient for contradictions, and transfers patient to exam area.
  • Investigates patient hardware and implants for MRI safety and safe patient handling.
  • Follows site standard protocol and confers with Radiologist regarding symptoms/findings and protocols.
  • Reviews exam orders for scheduling and protocol accuracy under the direction of the Medical Director or Supervising Radiologist.
  • Supports a culture to foster positive employee morale, staff engagement as well as staff integration and alignment with BMML operations and organizational goals.
  • Assists patient on to examination table and adjusts positioning devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by Physician.
  • Determines most suitable anatomical positions.
  • Draws-up contrast materials and prepares sterile trays.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and other medications as required under the direction of the Radiologist.
  • Assists with injections and ensures patient safety by following all protocols regarding the use of the pressure injector.
  • Adjusts and operates MRI equipment to image designated portions of the body.
  • Properly documents and informs supervisor of all adverse reactions and monitors patient safety and comfort.
  • Sets up and maintains paper and/or computer records as required.
  • Processes Images.
  • Operates all relevant equipment and computer applications.
  • Practices safety procedures.
  • Maintains and cleans equipment and work area.
  • Performs routine quality assurance checks on equipment.
  • Demonstrates age-related protocol in imaging neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
  • Coordinates training and orientation of new employees, and ongoing training as required.
  • Fills in for receptionist as required.
