Department Laboratory Services Job Summary Under minimal supervision, performs training and competency for non-laboratory hospital staff in waived and non-waived testing following the regulations and guidelines set by Joint Commission and CLIA standards. Identifies and resolves problems with point-of-care workflows and consults with Laboratory Leadership when appropriate and according to established protocol. Handles day to day POC related problems with little supervision, provides training and mentoring, and is the liaison for the department.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree Required
- 1-3 years A minimum of 2 years of prior laboratory experience in a Point-of-Care setting Required
- MLSASCP-Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP - American Society for Clinical Pathology Required
- Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and operational standards related to rehabilitation services at Denver Health.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements.

- Ability to coordinate, plan, or participate in quality assessments for improvements.
- Possess excellent communication skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve independently of supervisor.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with heavy multitasking, problem solving and organization skills.
- Good communication and customer relation skills to ensure patient safety and quality processes in the laboratory.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to handle patient specimens and laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of moderately complex and waived laboratory tests processes and testing procedures.

- Prefer experience using EPIC Beaker laboratory information system.
Responsibilities
- Assist the manager with overseeing Point-of-Care (POC) operations and regulatory compliance, including proficiency testing management, accreditation readiness, incident review, policy maintenance, and validation planning.
- Provide technical and clinical oversight, including advanced troubleshooting, evaluation and implementation of new POC test methods, and ensuring quality and performance standards are met.
- Lead and coordinate POC team activities, including staff scheduling, task delegation, communication with laboratory leadership, and participation in High-Risk Pathogen Lab response as trained and competent personnel.
- Training and competency for both waived and moderately complex point of care tests such as: Urinalysis dipsticks, pregnancy tests, rapid strep tests, pH paper, glucometer, HemoCue and Occult blood rapid tests, EPOC blood gas and chemistries, iSTAT coagulation, and Provider Performed Microscopy Procedure (PPMP)
- Travel to offsite locations such as Ambulatory Care Services (ACS) clinics, School Based Health Centers (SBHC), allied clinics and Winter Park Medical Center.
- Assists with projects such as correlation studies, new test or analyzer validations, customer satisfaction survey scores, or other departmental needs as assigned.
