About The Position

The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is an experienced laboratory professional who assists the Laboratory Manager with the daily operation of the clinical laboratory. This position serves as the designated laboratory leadership resource during periods when the Laboratory manager is unavailable, including planned and unplanned absences. The Laboratory Lead provides day-to-day technical and operational support, assists with staff workflow and training, promotes compliance with laboratory policies and procedures, and serves as a resource to laboratory personnel. The Lead MLS may collect, process, and test specimens submitted to the clinical laboratory. Reviews and reports results on specimens tested in the Clinical Laboratory. Performs quality assurance, and such maintenance as required, on instruments, testing material, and equipment. Ensures proper identification of patients, specimens, Health Care Providers orders, and other information vital to Southern Coos Health District. The Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist reports to the Manager of the Clinical Laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with completion of NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist program, or Bachelor’s degree & one to two years of Medical Laboratory Scientist experience/training acceptable to the ASCP or AMT required
  • Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist from the ASCP or AMT within six months of hire date
  • Required to meet CLIA 88 requirements of 493.1489 of the Federal Register Vol. 57, No. 40
  • Required to maintain certification(s) of Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
  • Required to successfully complete National Certification Examination
  • Required certifications must be kept current through continuing education.
  • U.S. citizens or have proper authorization to work in the United States.
