About The Position

This position is located at Highland District Hospital's Chemistry Department in Hillsboro, OH. It is a Full-Time Day Shift role (7:00 AM-3:30 PM) with weekend and holiday rotation. The Lead Medical Lab Scientist/Technician will perform and report laboratory tests, oversee Chemistry training, special projects, QC reviews, proficiency testing, and resolve instrument or specimen problems, ensuring adherence to technical procedures and regulations under the direction of the Chemistry Technical Director and site manager.

Requirements

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Medical Laboratory Science (MLT/MT)
  • ASCP certification or comparable required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of Chemistry testing experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work with people.
  • Sound reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Visual acuity and hand-finger dexterity to work at computer for extended periods.
  • Sit at computer work station for extended periods.
  • Stand at laboratory work station for extended periods.
  • Comprehension of verbal and written directions.
  • Concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Demonstrate complete integrity and accuracy in test performance and results reporting.
  • Handle stressful situations in a calm manner.
  • Will have exposure to biohazard substances and hazardous chemicals.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to safety, ergonomic and health policies of the Company.
  • Comply with all PPE requirements when in the laboratory or other biohazard areas.
  • Complete required safety training and health evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Anticipate safety hazards, act upon unsafe situations and promote safety awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine technical work as assigned by the Senior Manager or Technical Director.
  • Perform and record routine maintenance and quality control on all equipment or reagents used for testing.
  • Provide guidance for department members for any questions or problems that arise with Chemistry testing. Follow any problems through to completion and communicate with appropriate managers and next shift if appropriate.
  • Coordinate training for new department members, and when new instruments or procedures are introduced.
  • Oversee Chemistry proficiency testing through CAP or other agencies as well as competency assessment and provide additional training if the need is identified.
  • Submits QC for peer statistics, reviews QC and maintenance records and reviews issues and concerns with Technical directors and site manager.
  • Serve as the liaison between the department or shift and the Senior Manager and Chemistry Technical Director as appropriate.
  • Assist with the introduction of new analyzers and troubleshooting of current Chemistry analyzers. If appropriate, serve as the key operator and attend manufacturer training for new Chemistry analyzers.
  • Perform any specialized studies, reagent coordination, instrument calibration, or any other duties assigned by the Chemistry Technical Director.
  • Address client questions and problems in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of CompuNet Clinical Laboratories by performing other duties as required.
