About The Position

Open Door Health Services is seeking a full-time Lead Medical Assistant at 333 S. Madison St. in Muncie, Indiana. As an Open Door Lead Medical Assistant, you will be part of a supportive, interdisciplinary team providing high-quality, compassionate care to individuals and families. Lead medical assistants perform a variety of leadership and patient care activities to support and assist physicians, nurse practitioners, and other medical staff. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, Open Door Health Services provides comprehensive primary, urgent, preventive, and select specialty services and social support programs for individuals and families, regardless of their ability to pay. Our patients represent diverse backgrounds, life experiences, capacities, and orientations.

Requirements

  • Medical assistant certification or at least one year work experience in healthcare
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • MA certification preferred
  • At least one year of work experience in healthcare clinic/office if not certified
  • CMA, RMA or CCMA Certification is preferred at hire, required to be maintained through ODHS post hire
  • CPR & first aid certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day leadership by serving as the clinical resource for Medical Assistants, students, and support staff, offering guidance, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Train and onboard new team members by delivering hands-on instruction, ensuring competency, and supporting ongoing staff development.
  • Support practice operations by assisting the Practice Manager, leading daily team huddles, and helping maintain smooth clinic workflow in the manager's absence.
  • Promote accountability and teamwork by monitoring chart preparation, delegating assignments, addressing workflow concerns, and escalating issues when appropriate.
  • Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, maintaining patient confidentiality, modeling organizational values, and fostering a collaborative team culture.
  • Oversee clinical quality and compliance by managing vaccine inventory, medication reconciliation, equipment maintenance, quality checks, and adherence to agency policies and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as a trusted leadership partner by supporting departmental initiatives, encouraging cross-functional collaboration, communicating effectively, and helping drive continuous improvement across the clinic.
