About The Position

The Lead Medical Assistant plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of clinical services within a healthcare setting. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of medical assistants, coordinating patient care, and serving as a liaison between clinical staff and healthcare providers. The Lead Medical Assistant ensures compliance with healthcare regulations and standards while maintaining a high level of patient care and safety. This role requires strong leadership to mentor and support team members, optimize workflow efficiency, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Ultimately, the Lead Medical Assistant helps create a positive patient experience by facilitating effective communication and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a medical assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience within a healthcare environment.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in a health-related field.
  • Experience with specialty clinics such as cardiology, pediatrics, or orthopedics.
  • Proficiency in advanced EHR software and practice management systems.
  • Additional certifications such as Phlebotomy Technician or EKG Technician.
  • Experience in quality improvement initiatives or healthcare compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor medical assistant staff, providing guidance and support to enhance their clinical skills and professional development.
  • Coordinate patient flow and clinical operations to ensure timely and efficient delivery of care.
  • Assist healthcare providers with clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and administering medications or injections as directed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements within the clinical environment.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, medical assistants, and healthcare providers to optimize patient care and satisfaction.
  • Participate in training programs, quality improvement projects, and staff meetings to promote continuous improvement.
