About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine as a Lead Medical Assistant with our Neurosciences Clinic team at our DCAM - Hyde Park campus. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicago land area. A Certified Medical Assistant performs a wide variety of supportive care services to patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician. Such services can be therapeutic or diagnostic procedures and/or administration of medication. The Lead CMA role provides clinical and administrative coverage for the Ambulatory setting, including the creation of daily staff schedules, performing service recovery, covering staffing gaps, and directing clinical flow. The Lead CMA interfaces with providers, clinical staff members and administrative staff members to ensure that each patient has an excellent experience in the clinic.

Requirements

  • High school degree is required
  • 1 year of experience within the UChicago Medicine health system.
  • Experience in clinical specialty of the clinic preferred.
  • Requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of the clinic.
  • Required knowledge and skill could have been acquired in an inpatient or home health setting but outpatient experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs clinical care in the practice, including vitals, lab tests, aerosol nebulizations, administration of immunizations, care in urgent situations, and maintaining equipment and supplies. Provide clinical support and leadership for faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates with staff and providers to enhance the quality of patient care. Coordinates daily schedule for rooms and clinical assignments and performs quality audits on MA rooming and charting process. Provides leadership in adapting to change and promoting cost-effective measures in the practice to assure proper use of time, supplies, and personnel. Active participant and informal leader in staff meetings. Collaborates with ambulatory leadership to implement new policy and procedure and workflows.
  • Takes lead in the orientation of new clinical employees, participates in continuous Quality Improvement projects. Assists with data collection and shares responsibility for MDI board. Responsible for audits and quality control processes in the clinic, including but not limited to POC proficiency testing, fridge temperature, expiration date review, and maintenance of VFC program.
  • Assesses and pursues education for own professional growth and development and promotes the professional growth of others by participating in recruitment, onboarding, and training of new staff members.
  • Knows and practices the PRIDE values and promotes teamwork to create a positive work environment. Uses sincere greetings with providers, staff, and families, and owns and resolves service recovery with internal and external clients. Is aware of emergency procedures for their area and acts as a leader to staff in the case of emergencies. Appropriately escalates issues to management for any safety issues and protects University of Chicago property. Performs other duties as assigned.
