About The Position

Eaton’s Corporate Sector division is currently seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer for its Power Electronics (PE) and Battery Center of Excellence (CoE). Eaton’s PE and Battery CoEs accelerate the company’s growth through the development of technology and platforms that are scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable, as well as standardized design methodologies and tools that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provide a foundation for our business to develop innovative products more rapidly. This individual will be responsible for the integration of mechanical and electrical components for the power electronics and battery systems by creating structured 3D-CAD assemblies and using the state-of-the art FEA tools to ensure designs meet or exceed requirements. Up to 10% travel domestically and internationally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in integrating mechanical and electrical components by creating structured 3D CAD assemblies and using FEA tools to ensure designs meet requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • MS in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Significant experience in 3D CAD (e.g., Solidworks)
  • Strong working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles
  • Experience in FEA analysis such as thermal analysis
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Serviceability
  • Customer-focused with good relationship building and communication skills
  • Experience in designing battery packs, racks, or systems
  • Design for Six Sigma certification

Responsibilities

  • Leads mechanical design and development activities and demonstrates start-finish ownership for the assigned projects and tasks.
  • Performs mechanical design (e.g., 3D CAD modeling, FEA structural analysis) of components and assemblies.
  • Develops the technical requirements for and identify components for the designs.
  • Creates technical reports and presentations.
  • Performs engineering analysis to define critical design parameters and predict design latitude.
  • Performs lab activities like prototyping and measurement.
  • Collaborates with a cross functional team members such as electrical engineer and lab technician to successfully develop and validate the designs.
  • Evaluates the designs to meet requirements factoring in performance, size, cost, manufacturability, and reliability.
