About The Position

The Tooling Method & Design Main Project Engineer will join the Tooling team within Engineering department, responsible for technical studies and design of tools for transportation and erection of main pieces of equipment constituting a hydropower plant (embedded parts, turbine, generator, valves and hydromechanical). This role will take responsibility on projects to define the methods for handling, transport and support Turbine and Generator components. This involves collecting information from site, COEs, and project teams to design the necessary tools for erection and maintenance operations according to relevant procedures. The engineer will perform design and calculation notes for parts of the tooling, following a structured design process. This role is specifically responsible for project execution in the North America region, with a focus on design validation (US stamp mandatory).

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited university in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Significant experience (>5 years) in mechanical design
  • US stamp Mandatory
  • Experience in design of lifting equipment and access platform or significant experience on site
  • Good knowledge of CAD and calculation
  • Excellent written & verbal English skills for international communications
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional and global teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and a positive energy

Responsibilities

  • Collecting information from site, Project Engineering Manager, logistics, and Center of Excellence to prepare synopsis (sequence of installation/maintenance) and lashing (transport) drawings for a given project.
  • Imagining erection and maintenance operations according to procedure, aiming to use standard tools and adhere to EHS rules.
  • Performing calculations and design of tools according to CoE’s Design Practices, with validation from the tooling principal engineer.
  • Representing the Tooling Center of Excellence (CoE) to the Project Team, including System Integrator, CoE main project engineers, Supply Chain, and Construction & Commissioning.
  • Coordinating within the Tooling CoE the calculation and design of all tools identified during the synopsis phase, ensuring planning, cost, and safety requirements are met.
  • Designing specific tools, including 3D models, calculation notes, fabrication drawings, and instruction manuals.
  • Identifying the need for access on our machines.
  • Identifying the need for specific packing and specifying it.
  • Preparing lifting drawings.
  • Stamping tooling designs when required for North American projects (US stamp mandatory).
  • Pushing the synopsis BOM into the GE product life management system.
  • Participating in the design of the tool or the piece itself to implement tooling requirements.
  • Serving as the point of contact for site teams requesting support.
  • Coordinating synopsis tasks with sub-contractors or technicians.
  • Identifying standard tools available on the market.
