About The Position

The Lead Mechanic oversees a team of mechanics and is responsible for managing the repair and maintenance of diesel equipment and vehicles. The role requires strong leadership skills to assign tasks, ensure safety and compliance, and provide technical guidance. The Lead Mechanic will also handle complex repairs, perform diagnostics, and maintain high standards for equipment performance and safety. This role involves reviewing parts requests, tracking repair orders, and managing parts orders for both on-island and special-order parts. The Lead Mechanic will communicate with vendors for repairs and parts, dispatch mechanics to jobsites, and assign work orders daily. They will also review and perform quality inspections on work performed, utilize diagnostic systems and computers, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and update reports for internal and external customers. Additionally, the Lead Mechanic will schedule daily workloads and ensure repair orders are completed with supporting documents.

Requirements

  • Valid Guam Driver’s License.
  • 5+ years of experience with heavy equipment repair and maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Advanced knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Skilled in using diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to manage and motivate a team.
  • Ability to read manuals, schematics, and interpret technical information.

Nice To Haves

  • Able to obtain and maintain a certification from Automotive Services of Excellence or equivalent.
  • T Series ASE Certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide technical support to mechanics in the field and shop, ensuring repairs are completed efficiently and correctly.
  • Assign repair tasks based on priority and skill level and monitor progress to maintain productivity.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on equipment such as excavators, loaders, trenchers, forklifts, landscaping equipment, construction equipment, fuel servicing equipment, material and weight handling equipment, general purpose vehicles, and Public Works fleet.
  • Perform quality control checks on all repairs and maintenance work.
  • Fabricate, modify, and install special equipment or replacement parts.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments (i.e., fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches).
  • Change filters/oil, and lubricate vehicles and motor-driven equipment.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Train mechanics on safety protocols, technical skills, and use of diagnostic tools.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Manage parts inventory, including ordering and tracking to support the maintenance schedule.
  • Prepare maintenance reports and communicate any equipment status updates to management.
  • Assist in the hiring and performance evaluation of mechanics.
