About The Position

The Lead Meat/Meat Manager is responsible for overseeing the meat department, including product preparation, inventory management, customer service, and staff training. This role involves hands-on work with various types of meat, ensuring quality and presentation, and driving sales through excellent customer relationships and suggestive selling. The manager will also perform shift leader duties as needed and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements

  • 3 years of minimum experience as a Lead of a Meat Department.
  • Ability to read at an eighth-grade level.
  • Basic knowledge of mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
  • Knowledge of the weight measurements.
  • Ability to use the scale.
  • Knowledge of Mexican meat cuts.
  • Knowledge in the preparation of carnitas, barbacoa and chicharrón.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Cut, trim, bone, tie and grind different types of meat (chicken, beef, pork).
  • Wrap and weigh meat to dispatch the customers.
  • Arrange the meat in the display case.
  • Estimate the amount and type of meat needed and order the meat supply.
  • Have a precise control of the products and inventory of all the meat.
  • Receive, inspect and store the meat.
  • Keep the meat market area clean, sanitary and visually attractive.
  • Ensure that the correct prices and signs for the meat market products are in place.
  • Develop, train and guide new employees in the preparation of all products of the meat market, including carnitas, barbacoa, chicharrón and do them if necessary.
  • Recognize opportunities to sell products from other departments and apply suggestive selling.
  • Develop a professional relationship with the customer to increase sales.
  • Daily inspect and evaluate the quality of the meat market products.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
  • Perform all activities of a shift leader when required.
  • Keep work area clean, orderly and free from safety hazards.
  • Report faulty equipment and hazards to management.
  • Perform any other task assigned by the store manager.
