As a Lead Material Handler at our Gurnee, IL facility, you will play a critical role in supporting stockroom and production operations by ensuring inventory accuracy, material flow, and process compliance. Acting as a lead in the absence of the Supervisor, you will guide team members, resolve issues, and serve as a key point of contact between materials, production, and planning teams.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in materials handling, warehouse, or manufacturing operations required.
  • Prior experience in a lead or senior material handler role strongly preferred.
  • Basic working knowledge of SAP or ERP systems preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Working knowledge of inventory control, SAP transactions, and warehouse operations.
  • Ability to operate RF handheld devices and material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jack, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on inventory accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to reconcile discrepancies and support root cause problem-solving.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to lead by example and support team performance.
  • Intermediate math and literacy skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work a rotating shift schedule as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead for material handling operations in the absence of the Supervisor.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy in SAP through proper execution and reconciliation of transactions.
  • Perform multiple material functions, including return to stock (RTS), stockroom operations, cycle counts, WIP support, shipping, receiving, and inspection.
  • Reconcile inventory variances and report accuracy metrics to leadership.
  • Serve as a liaison between Production Control, Production Management, and manufacturing lines to resolve material shortages and issues.
  • Document all inventory transactions in accordance with GMP and SAP requirements.
  • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Oversee daily dock, forklift, and trailer checklists to ensure compliance and readiness.
  • Support receiving and shipping activities, including unloading raw materials and loading finished goods.
  • Verify batch records and documentation accuracy for compliance.
  • Perform physical inventory counts as required.
  • Conduct regular area walkthroughs to ensure team productivity, compliance, and safety adherence.
  • Provide on-the-job training and guidance to new material handlers.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for material handlers on assigned shift.
  • Assist in troubleshooting SAP, RF, and AGV system issues.
  • Support company initiatives including safety, quality, and continuous improvement programs (e.g., Six Sigma).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Acts as a team lead, providing guidance and direction to Material Handlers.
  • Serves as backup to the Supervisor as needed.
  • Supports training, coordination, and day-to-day team execution.
