About The Position

As Saab, Inc. is getting ready to begin our manufacturing operation in Grayling, MI we are seeking a Lead Material Handler to join our team! The Lead Material Handler will be an integral link between manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, facilities, safety, and the quality team on-site in Grayling, MI. Responsibilities will include: Perform the receipt, storage, movement, inventory, and shipment of HAZMAT Class 1 Explosives, following all applicable regulations, including DOW, DOT, ATF, and NFPA 495 guidelines. Receive, stock, and maintain incoming inventory from vendors. Pick, kit, and deliver inventory items to the production floor. Perform all required transactions within Oracle. Perform internal and inter-company movement of materials. Investigate and resolve discrepancies identified during cycle counts. Perform UPS and FedEx shipments using online shipping systems. Perform kitting, crate preparation, packing, and coordinating with freight forwarders on larger shipments. Complete all domestic and international shipping paperwork. Ensure compliance with government export regulations on international shipments. Prepare and maintain records of merchandise shipped, including posting weights and shipping charges. Examine, stock, and distribute materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines. Prepare kitting packages for assembly production as required. Safely and efficiently use hand tools, hand trucks, and forklifts. Strict adherence to all company policies, procedures, safety regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local laws at all times. Maintain full accountability of explosive assets through accurate inventory control, documentation, and secure storage. Requirements

  • Typically has an associate’s degree, technical/business school, or equivalent; may vary by functional area.
  • Typically has 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience may include managing office operations, advanced support skills, and extensive knowledge of tools, software, and other technologies.
  • Ability to lift heavy items and perform physical material handling tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
  • Consistently leads the most complex assignments requiring independent action, judgment and decision making.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accountability in a high-stakes, regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of HAZMAT classifications, labeling, segregation, and storage requirements.
  • Prior experience with Class 1 explosives or other regulated hazardous materials required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
