The Lead Material Handler is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the warehouse, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance. This role involves working with Material Handlers, providing training and guidance, and acting as a primary point of contact for the Warehouse Supervisor. The Lead Material Handler will handle complex material transfers, troubleshoot operational issues, and ensure all processes, from unloading and routing to drum cleaning and outbound loading, are executed to the highest standards. This role requires advanced knowledge of all hub functions and the ability to lead by example. The Lead Material Handler will build upon the foundational duties of a Material Handler with these advanced responsibilities: Safety and Compliance Leadership: Leads by example in all safety protocols, actively coaching Material Handlers on safe work practices. Conducts regular safety inspections of equipment and work areas. Assist the Supervisor in investigating safety incidents and implementing corrective actions. Ensures all team members consistently follow company rules, regulations, and EPA/DOT/OSHA designations. Team Oversight and Training: Directs and delegates daily tasks to the Material Handler team, ensuring all hub functions are completed on schedule. Provides on-the-job training for new Material Handlers on all operational procedures, including unloading, waste checking, drum washing, and loading. Mentors junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety. Acts as a liaison between the Material Handler team and the Manager/Supervisor, communicating feedback and operational challenges. Advanced Operational Tasks: Troubleshoots complex issues related to tank farm/rail operations, solvent filling and consolidation (including aqueous), and material transfers. Assists with the inventory and staging of materials, ensuring accurate counts and proper labeling. Operates and maintains specialized equipment, including forklifts, drum washing machines, filling station, (and yard spotter if trained), with expert proficiency. Oversee the precise loading of outbound trailers and railcars, ensuring compliance with all shipping documents and safety regulations. Administrative and Strategic Support: Assists in developing and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for warehouse activities. Maintains detailed records of material movements, scanning, and equipment maintenance. Participates in strategic planning meetings with the Supervisor to optimize warehouse flow and efficiency. Performs all duties of a Material Handler as needed, demonstrating versatility and a deep understanding of all hub functions.
