This position provides advanced facilities, utilities, and mission-critical infrastructure maintenance for a complex biotech/life sciences site. It supports manufacturing, R&D, distribution, warehouse, and data center operations. The role involves leading advanced troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, critical alarm response, and system recovery. The technician will ensure reliable operation of HVAC, utilities, building systems, and mission-critical IT infrastructure. This role serves as a working shift lead and technical subject matter expert, maintaining GMP documentation, regulatory compliance, and equipment reliability.

Requirements

• 8+ years of facilities or utilities maintenance experience in a GMP-regulated biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting at least two GMP environments, such as manufacturing, R&D laboratories, or warehouse/distribution.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration systems.
• Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated experience independently authoring and closing GMP quality records, including Change Controls, Deviations, CAPAs, Problem Reports, and MOPs.
• Experience as a shift lead, crew lead, or team lead, including assigning work and providing technical direction.
• Knowledge of FDA, EH&S, cGMP, and ISO requirements.
• Strong working knowledge of BMS and CMMS systems.
• Experience with emergency response, critical system recovery, and on-call maintenance.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical certifications in multiple mechanical/electrical trades required.
• Maryland 2nd Grade Stationary Engineer license required; 1st Grade strongly preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

• EPA Section 608 Universal certification preferred.
• OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour General Industry certification preferred.
• Experience with Blue Mountain RAM or validated GMP CMMS preferred.
• Experience with Siemens Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys, Honeywell, or equivalent BMS preferred.
• Data center infrastructure experience with CRAC and UPS systems preferred.
• Experience with IQ/OQ/PQ qualification of life-science utility systems preferred.
• Boiler operator licenses preferred.
• PLC troubleshooting experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens S7 preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC, boilers, pure steam generators, autoclaves, lab washers, RODI, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and pneumatic systems.
• Respond to infrastructure, utility, and mission-critical equipment alarms.
• Restore critical environments to required maintenance conditions after repairs.
• Operate and maintain data center infrastructure, including CRAC units, UPS systems, and battery strings.
• Perform preventative maintenance on facility and utility equipment.
• Participate in emergency and on-call maintenance response.
• Lead daily work assignments and provide technical guidance and mentorship to technicians.
• Author and manage GMP quality records, including Change Controls, Deviations, CAPAs, Problem Reports, and MOPs.
• Write and revise SOPs, PM procedures, job plans, and work instructions.
• Review work order closures for accuracy, completeness, and GxP compliance.
• Support regulatory inspections and internal audits as a facilities/utility SME.
• Monitor BMS systems, alarms, trends, meter readings, and field conditions.
• Document utility performance and maintain accurate CMMS records.
• Act as a CMMS and BMS power user for work orders, PM scheduling, asset records, alarms, and trend reviews.
• Coordinate server room work with IT and ensure required Change Controls are completed.
• Review contractor scopes, Job Safety Analyses, and completed work.
• Support IQ, OQ, and PQ commissioning and qualification activities.
• Identify recurring failures and develop reliability improvement recommendations.
• Recommend spare parts, PM frequency changes, capital projects, and equipment replacements.
• Ensure continuous operation of site HVAC, utility, and mission-critical IT systems.
