This role utilizes specialized skill sets to support the maintenance and optimal operating condition of a variety of equipment, adhering to company-approved food safety practices and policies. The Lead Maintenance Technician will also train other maintenance mechanics to enhance departmental skill levels and decrease equipment downtime. This position requires the ability to identify visual defects, work in varying temperatures, maintain good housekeeping, and promote adherence to food safety and quality standards. Regular attendance and contributing to team efforts are essential. All job duties must be performed in a compliant and ethical manner, following all applicable laws and company policies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in advanced mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills and/or specialized training.
  • Read and Write English.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks to accomplish objectives.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical information in mathematical and/or narrative form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Bi-Lingual a positive but not required.
  • Ability to read, write and interpret documents such as box markings, labels, schedules, safety rules, GMP’s and general instructions.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of process and equipment.
  • Ability to work in a high paced environment.
  • Reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Lift up to 50lbs.
  • Frequently move between warm and cold environments.
  • Read, write, and understand English at a technical level.
  • Complete basic math problems.
  • Able to read and understand mechanical & electrical schematics.
  • 3 yrs of previous experience in maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Routinely inspect equipment.
  • Evaluate integrity of equipment and determine potential equipment failure or actual equipment failure.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all facility equipment and machinery including office auxiliary equipment.
  • Identify when mechanical parts (e.g. sprockets, bearing shafts, chain, gearboxes) are worn and need to be replaced.
  • Understand and troubleshoot controls and equipment interlocks.
  • Understand and perform electrical shutdown procedures.
  • Understand the fire system operation and where the valves are located.
  • Able to operate and setup all equipment in the plant.
  • Report concerns or problems to the maintenance lead and/or manager.
  • Perform preventive maintenance repairs as needed.
  • Perform basic maintenance duties as necessary.
  • Maintain operational ability and integrity of all machinery.
  • Lubricate all equipment as necessary and verify that the equipment or parts accepts lubrication properly.
  • Understand pneumatics, hydraulic basic controls, pumps and general operations.
  • Operate all equipment (e.g. conveyors, augers, pumps, etc.) in order to perform necessary Pre-Operational maintenance procedures.
  • Using specialized skill sets, performs corrective maintenance and emergency maintenance on food packaging/processing equipment and facility equipment to maximize equipment up-time.
  • Completion of assigned scheduled preventative maintenance and work orders assigned to increase asset life.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports documenting the activities and work performed by the maintenance department. Includes all equipment repairs from breakdowns, work orders or scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Assist in maintaining the maintenance office and departmental records.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve advanced equipment mechanical/electrical issues within specialized skill sets.
  • Repair and/or rebuild pumps, mills, gearboxes and other miscellaneous mechanical entities.
  • Assist/direct other maintenance mechanics in troubleshooting advanced equipment problems using specialized skill sets.
  • Train other maintenance mechanics with up to date information to increase skill level within department. Effectively document who, what, why and when the training takes place.
  • Promotes, adheres, and is responsible for Food Safety and Quality.
  • Oversees and responsible for time and attendance for each team and the overall plant.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all company Safety Rules and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and adhere to JSA guidelines.
  • Responsible for Food Safety and Quality Culture.
  • Follow daily set up and/or shutdown procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Must be able to work any shift, overtime, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
