About The Position

The Lead Maintenance Mechanic serves as a key member of the maintenance team, responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of power plant equipment. This role provides technical leadership to the maintenance workforce by offering guidance, mentoring, and quality assurance support to maintenance mechanics. Working closely with the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Planner, the Lead Maintenance Mechanic helps coordinate daily maintenance activities by planning, prioritizing, and assigning work to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to established quality standards. The position also promotes continuous improvement, supports workforce development, and helps maintain the reliability and availability of plant equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Five years of relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial plant equipment.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of industrial plant equipment.
  • Welding and rigging certifications required, or the ability to obtain both within six (6) months of hire.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize work activities based on plant operational and production requirements.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel.
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices, maintenance planning, and equipment reliability principles.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings, equipment manuals, and maintenance documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding and rigging certifications or obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Daily coordination with Operations to understand emergent needs and communicate these needs to the leadership team.

  • Perform mechanical, maintenance, inspection and repair work including rotating machinery and equipment.
  • Inspect and adjust the alignment of pumps, replace or rebuild pumps, replace fan bearings, replace motors, repair screw conveyors, rebuild or change gearboxes, install and modify pipelines, and assist in the modification and addition of plant projects.
  • Performs general facility and building maintenance as required.
  • Request tools and other supplies required by the maintenance team
  • Perform rigging for disassembly and or assembly of plant equipment.
  • Perform pressure part and standard welding for repairs of piping, tubes, shafts, structural repair and fabrication with competency using different metals.
  • Maintains maintenance shop in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
  • Complies with all health and safety policies, procedures, practices and regulations including reporting.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and hands-on training to mechanics and welders to support skill development and progress toward Individual Development Plan (IDP) goals.
  • Assist in planning, prioritizing, and assigning maintenance work to maximize equipment reliability and plant availability.
  • Prepare and distribute daily end-of-shift reports summarizing completed work, ongoing activities, equipment issues, resource needs, and priority items requiring follow-up.
