About The Position

Provides nursing support to the physician and provides direct nursing care to patients in an outpatient setting. This role involves assigning duties, coordinating clinical services, ensuring staffing, delegating assignments, updating nursing staff on policies, monitoring effectiveness, developing work assignments and schedules, and investigating/resolving complaints. The Lead LPN also responds to patient teaching opportunities, identifies family involvement in patient compliance, performs direct nursing care within the licensed scope of practice, assesses patient concerns, participates in problem-solving, obtains medical information, takes vital signs, records data, communicates with the physician, works closely with the office assistant and physician, escorts patients, assists with examinations, provides emotional support, and assists with scheduling. Additionally, this role is responsible for coordinating medical supply orders, exercising proper stewardship of supplies, equipment, and time, providing ongoing feedback to clinical support staff, coaching and counseling employees, serving as a mentor for staff development, and assisting in training LPN staff.

Requirements

  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Licensed Practical Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
  • Five (5) years of LPN experience.
  • Must have the ability to work successfully under highly stressful conditions, and must be capable of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be skilled with computer systems used by both physician offices and hospitals to capture data accurately and consistently.
  • Ability to function as a team member in respect to organization, communication, and task prioritization.
  • Must also be able to work weekends, holidays and all shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns duties and coordinates clinical services in absence of clinical manager.
  • Coordinates ambulatory nursing care, ensures staffing, delegates assignments, updates nursing staff on new policies/procedure and ensures implementation, monitors effectiveness for clinical support staff at facility.
  • Develops and distributes daily work assignments and monthly schedules.
  • Keeps informed of special physician orders concerning patients.
  • Investigates and resolves complaints or refers unusual problems to clinic manager.
  • Responds to patient teaching opportunities to enhance patient compliance and safety.
  • Identifies family involvement in patient compliance.
  • Performs all LPN direct nursing care duties within licensed scope of practice, assesses patient concerns, including type and level of care needed through triage.
  • Participates in problem solving and decision making.
  • Acts to ensure staffing and patient needs are met.
  • Obtains medical information from patients.
  • Takes height, weight, blood pressure, and vital signs of the patient.
  • Screens patient for chief complaint and pertinent health data.
  • Records data gathered in patient’s medical record and communicates data gathered to physician.
  • Works closely with office assistant and physician to facilitate patient's clinic visit.
  • Escorts patients to and from exam room.
  • Assists physician with examination if needed.
  • Provides emotional support to patients and/or families.
  • Assists with scheduling when necessary.
  • Responsible for coordination of medical supply orders for clinic.
  • Exercises proper stewardship through the appropriate use of supplies, equipment, and time.
  • Provides on-going feedback to clinical support staff concerning job performance.
  • Coaches and counsels employees under direction of manager.
  • Serves as a mentor for all clinical staff to help foster staff development.
  • Assists in training LPN staff.
