About The Position

This role involves orienting and instructing new drivers, assisting supervisors in assigning and directing work, and communicating with management to ensure the proper flow of vehicles. The specialist will maintain logs of vehicle stock numbers and lot locations, communicate schedules and assignments to crew members, and manage vans and transport drivers. Key responsibilities include ensuring timely pick-up and drop-off of employees and vehicles, shuttling employees across the lot and between locations, and performing daily maintenance and routine checks of the van, including cleaning and fueling. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, working in cooperation with the Market Safety Lead, and reviewing departmental performance against KPIs to develop improvement strategies. The Lead Lot Operations Specialist will lead the team by example, championing company values and ensuring respectful treatment of all employees, while also enforcing company policies and procedures. Additional duties may be assigned by management, and overtime may be required as business needs dictate. The role involves significant driving, getting in and out of vehicles, locating sale units, moving through multiple areas during sale operations, and standing for long periods. It also requires frequently lifting and carrying automotive batteries (approx. 18 lbs) and jump-starting vehicles (65-75% of units moved during sale operations), including lifting batteries from ground level to shoulder height.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED plus 7 years of related work experience, OR any degree or certification above a High School Diploma/GED plus 5 years of related work experience, OR 9 years of related work experience.
  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be able to clear a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without current or future sponsorship.
  • No OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT or visa sponsorship now or in future.

Responsibilities

  • Orient and instruct new drivers regarding their job duties.
  • Assist supervisor in assigning and directing the work of employees.
  • Communicate with supervisor or manager to assure proper flow of vehicles.
  • Maintain log of stock numbers for each vehicle moved and its lot location.
  • Communicate schedules and assignments to the crew members.
  • Manage vans and transport drivers to locations.
  • Ensure timely pick-up and drop-off of employees and vehicles by transporting them according to schedule to their proper work destinations.
  • Shuttle employees across the lot and occasionally between locations.
  • Pick-up and drop-off employees and other Auction personnel across the Auction.
  • Perform daily maintenance and routine checks of the van and clean and service the vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such.
  • Work in cooperation with Market Safety Lead in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Work with manager to review work volumes, plan and continuously monitor staffing levels to ensure efficiency, quality work product, and effective customer service.
  • Review departmental performance against key performance indicators and metrics and develop and execute strategies for improvement.
  • Effectively lead the team at the location by setting an example in behavior, championing Cox/Manheim values and ensuring that all employees are treated with respect.
  • Enforce all company policies and procedures related to employee and customer conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • May be required to work overtime as business needs dictate.
  • Spend most of the day driving and getting in and out of vehicles, locating sale units, and moving through multiple areas during sale operations.
  • Stand for long periods of time checking in and out temps.
  • Frequently lift and carry automotive batteries weighing approximately 18 pounds to jump-start vehicles.
  • Jump-start 65% to 75% of units being moved during sale operations.
  • Lift batteries from ground level to shoulder height to install on vehicles for starting purposes.
