About The Position
Collects, labels, logs, and processes blood and other specimens. Checks quality of samples and specimens. Assembles supplies and equipment. Monitors lab incubator/refrigerator temperatures utilized. Prepares specimens for referral to outside laboratories. Acts as the Processing Supervisor in his/her absence; and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Five years of experience in a medical laboratory setting is preferred
Responsibilities
- Keeps track of the daily dental school log and registers patients in GE IDX.
- Aids in training of new employees.
- Assumes the basic duties of the supervisor in their absence.
- Orders all appropriate tests in LIS system.
- Registers all drop-off specimens in GE IDX.
- Ensures the correct tubes and specimen containers have been submitted or collected for the appropriate test ordered and are labeled correctly.
- Ensures CAP, UMPA, and GLP (when appropriate ) guidelines are followed during processing procedures.
- Determines specimen acceptability.
- Spins, separates, stores and distributes specimens to the appropriate area in the lab.
