About The Position

This role involves collecting, labeling, logging, and processing blood and other specimens in a pathology laboratory. The Lead Laboratory Processor is responsible for checking the quality of samples, assembling supplies and equipment, and monitoring laboratory incubator/refrigerator temperatures. This position also prepares specimens for referral to outside laboratories and acts as the Processing Supervisor in their absence. Additional duties include ordering tests in the LIS system, registering drop-off specimens, ensuring correct specimen collection and labeling, and adhering to CAP, UMPA, and GLP guidelines. The role also involves determining specimen acceptability, and spinning, separating, storing, and distributing specimens.

Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
Five years of experience in a medical laboratory setting is preferred

Responsibilities

Collects, labels, logs, and processes blood and other specimens.
Checks quality of samples and specimens.
Assembles supplies and equipment.
Monitors lab incubator/refrigerator temperatures.
Prepares specimens for referral to outside laboratories.
Acts as the Processing Supervisor in his/her absence.
Keeps track of the daily dental school log and registers patients in GE IDX.
Aids in training of new employees.
Assumes the basic duties of the supervisor in their absence.
Orders all appropriate tests in LIS system.
Registers all drop-off specimens in GE IDX.
Ensures the correct tubes and specimen containers have been submitted or collected for the appropriate test ordered and are labeled correctly.
Ensures CAP, UMPA, and GLP (when appropriate ) guidelines are followed during processing procedures.
Determines specimen acceptability.
Spins, separates, stores and distributes specimens to the appropriate area in the lab.
