About The Position

The Lead Lab Technologist acts as the Lead Medical Technologist and serves as the primary assistant to the department supervisor, manager, or coordinator. The role helps coordinate technical, logistical, and administrative functions to ensure clinical laboratory samples are tested and results reported promptly within established timeframes. The incumbent manages day-to-day assignments, supports project completion and regulatory compliance, and serves as a technical resource for laboratory staff.

Requirements

At least 3 years of clinical laboratory operations work experience.
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biological Science, or Medical Laboratory Science.
One of the following certifications: Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from AMT, or Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from ASCP.

Responsibilities

Perform essential functions of a Lead Medical Technologist in assigned sections.
Manage day-to-day work assignments.
Ensure completion of tasks for projects initiated by the Lab Supervisor.
Collaborate with the Lab Supervisor and laboratory staff to ensure the assigned laboratory section complies with regulatory requirements.
Provide feedback and suggestions to improve quality and performance.
Provide input as needed on performance evaluations.
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient test result records.
Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and ensure documentation of quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
Follow established corrective action policies and procedures when test systems are not performing within acceptable levels, and ensure proper documentation.
Serve as a technical resource to help staff identify and correct problems that could adversely affect test performance or reporting of results.
