About The Position

The Lead Laboratory Technician oversees the day-to-day activities in an animal diagnostic reference laboratory performing laboratory analyses and tests. Supervises staff, assigns work and evaluates results. The work shift is Monday - Friday 9:30am-6:30pm. The target pay range for this position is $25-30 per hour. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Laboratory skills and experience
  • General science background
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to communicate information so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Personal computer skills, strong typing ability, and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Stationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.
  • Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouch
  • May be required to lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Heavy microscopic work
  • The ability to observe details at close range.
  • Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions.
  • Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE.
  • Work under close to moderate supervision.
  • Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards. A complete list of such chemicals is available from department supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • 2- or 4-year degree in science related field preferred
  • minimum of 1-year clinical laboratory experience
  • Prior leadership experience preferred
  • Extended hours may be needed

Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day activities in the laboratory performing laboratory analyses and tests
  • Supervise staff, assign work and monitor activities
  • Resolve escalated issues
  • Administer employment actions, provide coaching and guidance to staff and promote staff training and development
  • Provides input to department policies and procedures
  • Leads work activities of the lab planning and organizing work, providing adequate staffing and resources and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained
  • Communicate with other related departments and laboratory supervisors and managers to coordinate work and resolve issues as needed.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of department diagnostic equipment and other technical resources
  • Coordinate with internal personnel, vendors and others as needed to resolve issues and maintain ongoing functionality
  • Train on all according to all Standard Operating Procedures
  • Oversee the entering and releasing of results
  • Oversee the building and packing of send outs to the main lab.
  • Train on workflow and production goals
  • Order and maintain an appropriate level of supplies
  • Review of Quality Control Protocols
  • Provide feedback regarding staff performance to leadership
  • Perform other duties as assigned
