Individuals hired for this position are required to complete 2 years in this role before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic. Visa sponsorship is not available, and this position does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a phlebotomy training program with 18 months of phlebotomy experience OR 18 months of phlebotomy experience.
  • Ability to solve operational issues with minimal assistance.
  • Current National Phlebotomy certification (e.g., NHA, ASCP, etc.).
  • A resume must be included for the application to be considered.
  • Foreign-trained lab personnel must provide a detailed equivalency High School evaluation, including US equivalent degree, at the applicant's expense.
  • DLMP employees in their current lab/position for less than 2 years must attach early release approval from their supervisor.
  • Non-DLMP internal applicants in their current department/position for less than one year must attach early release approval from their supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods with standard safety equipment from all age groups, adhering to regulatory requirements and collection procedures.
  • Provides rapid response to medical emergencies.
  • Performs a variety of point of care testing (POC).
  • Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling, and transportation.
  • Performs accurate specimen testing using POC equipment.
  • Works with a variety of computer programs/systems.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Utilizes good customer relations and communication skills in performing phlebotomy, answering the phone, and interacting with patients, nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrates a positive and professional demeanor.
  • Works independently and as part of a team.
  • Assists with providing operations support to teams by mobilizing staff across various competency-based areas to ensure coverage of critical patient care areas.
  • Works in a fast-paced environment, coping, understanding and following written and verbal instructions, organization and prioritization, attention to detail, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making.
  • Participates as a member of the interview team.
  • Provides training feedback to education and leadership teams.
  • Assists with completing annual and random skill competencies.
  • Must be able to push a cart and walk distances.
