About The Position

The Lead, IT Applications (Self-Checkout – POS) is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and support of Self-Checkout (SCO) solutions within store systems. This role partners with business and IT stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable, and efficient checkout experiences that enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. The Lead provides both functional and technical expertise across SCO, POS, and payment systems, ensuring successful execution from concept through deployment and ongoing support.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years of experience in retail systems or IT consulting with strong exposure to POS and Self Checkout solutions
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong understanding of POS systems, Self Checkout workflows, and payment processing (EMV, PIN pads, contactless)
  • Experience supporting large-scale store technology rollouts across multiple locations
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage complex system integrations across multiple platforms
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
  • Experience working with third-party vendors in retail hardware/software ecosystems
  • Strong project leadership and execution skills
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture and design of Self Checkout (SCO) solutions, ensuring integration with POS, payment systems, and store infrastructure
  • Act as the IT lead for the Self Checkout workstream across initiatives and programs
  • Partner with business stakeholders to define requirements, roadmap, and rollout strategy for SCO capabilities
  • Translate functional requirements into technical solutions for moderate to highly complex initiatives
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, compliance, and operational standards
  • Drive full development lifecycle including design validation, build, testing, and deployment
  • Coordinate and support all testing phases (integration, UAT, performance, operational readiness)
  • Lead pilot deployments, stabilization periods, and large-scale rollout execution across store fleet
  • Ensure store readiness across hardware, software, networking, and operational procedures
  • Provide ongoing production support, including troubleshooting, incident management, and root cause analysis
  • Identify and drive continuous improvements in SCO performance, customer experience, and operational efficiency
  • Lead cross-functional coordination across IT, business, vendors, and store operations teams
  • Develop and communicate project status, risks, and mitigation strategies to leadership
  • Collaborate with hardware and software vendors to resolve issues and deliver enhancements
  • Ensure delivery of implementation artifacts including training, job aids, and operational documentation
