Lead IP Counsel
About The Position
ElevenLabs is seeking an exceptional IP Counsel to join their Legal Team. As a company at the forefront of AI-generated audio and voice, ElevenLabs is navigating complex and consequential IP questions in real-time, particularly concerning copyright law, content licensing, and IP strategy for generative AI. This role offers a unique opportunity to be involved in shaping these evolving legal landscapes. The IP Counsel will partner closely with product, engineering, research, and commercial teams to address a wide range of intellectual property matters, including copyright, rights of publicity, trademarks, and trade secrets. Key responsibilities include advising on IP risk in model development and outputs, structuring and negotiating licensing deals across ElevenLabs' platforms, and developing frameworks to protect and expand the company's IP position as it scales. This is a high-impact, high-autonomy position for an individual who thrives on substantive legal work in a rapidly advancing AI company.
Requirements
- JD with active membership in at least one U.S. state bar or law degree and qualification to practice law in the U.K.
- 6+ years of experience advising on intellectual property issues, including copyright and/or trade secrets.
- Experience drafting and negotiating complex IP-related transactions, including licensing agreements.
- Strong command of the IP issues unique to generative AI companies.
- Excellent business judgment, writing skills, and attention to detail.
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment.

- Experience with content distribution and licensing in the media, entertainment, music, or publishing industries.
- Experience managing IP risk in a software development environment.
- Law firm and in-house experience.
