About The Position

Leidos Defense is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to lead systems engineering for an active hypersonics production program. The role provides technical leadership as a hypersonic system transitions from development to production, with a focus on verification that requirements translate effectively to test and manufacturing environments. The engineer will lead a focused team of one to two engineers and work with Hardware Development, Integration, and Test teams to identify engineering efficiencies and position the program for follow-on success.

The position involves developing and reviewing systems engineering artifacts, including Requirements Specifications, Manufacturing Procedures, Engineering Reports, and potentially MBSE content. The role is based in the Huntsville–North Alabama area; candidates must live in the area or be willing to relocate. The program operates in a matrixed organization supporting multiple programs across diverse engineering fields, with opportunities to transition to other programs when the current program is complete.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or an equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university, with at least 8 years of experience; or a master’s degree with at least 6 years of experience.
• Experience deriving requirements for integration, manufacturing, and production systems.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Demonstrated effective communication within a team environment.
• Resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville–North Alabama, Alabama area.
• Possess a Secret clearance or be able to obtain one.

Nice To Haves

• Experience developing manufacturing processes and procedures.
• Experience with MagicDraw and/or other MBSE modeling tools.
• Demonstrated experience leading a team of engineers.
• Demonstrated cross-discipline collaboration.
• Experience estimating engineering effort, including hours, for Systems Engineering tasks.
• Experience with DOORS and/or other requirements database tools.
• Understanding of DoD acquisition processes and methods.
• Experience supporting one or more DoD programs.
• Object Management Group Certified System Modeler Professional (OCSMP) certification.
• INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification (ASEP or CSEP).
• Experience in Test, MBSE, Human Factors, Risk Management, or Reliability Analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of one to two engineers in requirements verification.
• Interface with Hardware Development, Integration, and Test teams.
• Identify engineering efficiencies that position the program for follow-on success.
• Develop and review Requirements Specifications, Manufacturing Procedures, Engineering Reports, and systems engineering artifacts.
• Support the transition of a hypersonic system from development to production and verify requirements for test and manufacturing environments.
