About The Position

The HVAC Lead Technician is responsible for leading the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems across industrial, commercial, laboratory, and support facilities. This position provides technical leadership to HVAC technicians, ensures compliance with safety and quality requirements, and supports mission-critical operations in a highly regulated environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5–10 years of HVAC maintenance experience in industrial, commercial, government, nuclear, or manufacturing facilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC/R systems, controls, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and air handling units.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency using CMMS software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school certification or Associate Degree in HVAC/R, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Journeyman or Master HVAC License.
  • Experience in DOE, nuclear, industrial, or federal facilities.
  • Knowledge of building automation systems (BAS), DDC controls, and energy management systems.
  • Experience with safety programs including Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, and Hazard Analysis.
  • OSHA 30-Hour, HVAC Journeyman/Master License, CPR/First Aid, and applicable manufacturer training certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily HVAC maintenance and repair activities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, refrigeration, chilled water, and air handling systems.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on HVAC equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Supervise and mentor HVAC technicians and subcontractors.
  • Plan and assign work orders, ensuring completion in accordance with established schedules.
  • Ensure work is performed in accordance with site safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and environmental regulations.
  • Diagnose electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical control system issues.
  • Maintain computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) records and work orders.
  • Coordinate equipment outages, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Support energy efficiency and system reliability initiatives.
  • Conduct inspections and recommend equipment upgrades or replacements.
  • Participate in planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, OSHA requirements, and DOE regulations.
