About The Position

A growing residential HVAC company in the Des Moines area is seeking an experienced Lead HVAC Service Technician to join its team. This is a key revenue-generating role for someone who excels at diagnosing and repairing HVAC systems while delivering an exceptional customer experience. The ideal candidate has 4–5+ years of experience as a Lead Service Technician, has successfully managed their own service truck, and understands how to build trust with homeowners while identifying repair, maintenance, and replacement opportunities. This individual will play a critical role in driving service revenue, membership growth, and installation leads.

Requirements

  • 4–5+ years of experience as a Lead HVAC Service Technician.
  • Experience independently managing a service truck and daily route.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills on residential HVAC equipment.
  • EPA Certification required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Professional appearance and ability to build trust with homeowners.
  • Ability to identify repair versus replacement opportunities ethically and confidently.
  • Comfortable discussing memberships, system upgrades, and replacement options with customers.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • NATE Certification (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with ServiceTitan or similar field service software.
  • Experience with high-efficiency HVAC systems and heat pumps.
  • Sales aptitude with a customer-first approach.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to residential HVAC service calls in a timely and professional manner.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and tune-ups to maximize equipment performance.
  • Educate homeowners on system operation, repairs, and maintenance recommendations.
  • Identify and communicate replacement opportunities when repairs are no longer the best solution.
  • Generate qualified leads for the installation team.
  • Promote and enroll customers in maintenance membership programs.
  • Respond to emergency service calls as needed.
  • Maintain accurate service records, invoices, and job documentation.
  • Keep company vehicle stocked, organized, and maintained.
  • Deliver a five-star customer experience during every visit.
