JOB SUMMARY The Lead HVAC Plant Technician will lead and coordinate HVAC activities across all facilities. Operate and maintain facility utilities including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressors, dryers, dust collectors, house vacuum, RTO and air handlers. Assist supervisor and department with support and other tasks and delegate tasks to HVAC/Plant Technician. Coordinate HVAC department, train and guide others in department, coordinate with vendors and contractors for department needs. Have high knowledge of boilers and boiler systems, air handling units, air conditioning systems, cooling towers, chillers and their ancillary components. The ability to diagnose and repair minor issues when they arise and or determine when a contractor is required. Schedule repairs internally and externally, acquire parts for said repairs. Generate work orders for the team and assign them to team members. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2B boiler license or higher
  • Minimum of five years active HVAC experience or related fields, with at least two years in a lead role
  • Ability to pass a HVAC competency test to include Electrical, Mechanical, Ventilation and Boiler questions
  • Ability to motivate others
  • Proficiency in HVAC systems, controls and tools
  • Ability to read drawings and technical manuals
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Problem-solving and decision-making under pressure
  • Organizational skills for managing schedules and documentation

Nice To Haves

  • HVAC certification from a trade school preferred
  • Two-year associates degree is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead the department
  • Schedule work and repairs
  • Communicate with supervisors and others with important issues
  • Meet with contractors and dept heads to coordinate and schedule work
  • On call rotation for responding to alarms which includes BMS, fire, security, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency
  • Monitor building automation systems and respond to alerts or system failures
  • Schedule and supervisor HVAC technicians and contractors performing installations, repairs or PM’s
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes and environmental standards
  • Maintain records of HVAC activities, inspections and equipment performance
