This role monitors and performs audits on all health information management functions, serving as a working supervisor for a team or work group. The position involves reviewing, evaluating, and assessing medical records of patients to ensure documentation compliance with government and other regulations. The Lead HIM Technician provides guidance to staff within established work area and policies, handling assignments that require judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations. This role works with sensitive and confidential information, often interpreting policies and procedures to guide its use.

Requirements

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
  • Five years' relevant experience: Preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Scans patient documents to ensure electronic medical record accuracy.
  • Prepares inpatient and patient medical records.
  • Assigns correct document barcode identification numbers.
  • Analyzes inpatient/outpatient medical records and accurately inputs information into system.
  • Obtains, verifies, prepares discharged medical records and ensures accuracy with chart labeling and patient information.
  • Performs qualitative analysis of inpatient/outpatient medical records and accurately inputs deficiency data into system.
  • Prepares reports, special projects, and chart auditing as requested.
  • Processes requests for release of information in accordance with hospital policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Retrieves charts for delivery to units and/or reviews/audits and outside storage as appropriate.
  • Retrieves transcribed/scanned documents as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
