About The Position

Adventist Health Glendale is looking for a Lead HIM Technician for a Full-time, Day shift position. This role is based onsite at our location in Glendale, CA. The Lead HIM Technician monitors and performs audits on all health information management functions, serving as a working supervisor for a team or work group. This role involves reviewing, evaluating, and assessing medical records of patients to ensure documentation compliance with government and other regulations. The position provides guidance to staff within established work area and policies, and handles assignments that are considerably difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations. The role also involves working with sensitive and confidential information, often requiring interpretation of policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Five years' relevant experience: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and performs audits on all health information management functions.
  • Serves as working supervisor for team or work group.
  • Reviews, evaluates and assesses medical records of patients.
  • Ensures documentation is in compliance with government and other regulations.
  • Provides guidance to staff within the latitude of established work area and policies.
  • Works on assignments that are considerably difficult requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations.
  • Works with sensitive and confidential information, often involving the interpretation of policies and procedures to guide use.
  • Scans patient documents to ensure electronic medical record accuracy.
  • Prepares inpatient and patient medical records.
  • Assigns correct document barcode identification numbers.
  • Analyzes inpatient/outpatient medical records and accurately inputs information into system.
  • Obtains, verifies, prepares discharged medical records and ensures accuracy with chart labeling and patient information.
  • Performs qualitative analysis of inpatient/outpatient medical records and accurately inputs deficiency data into system.
  • Prepares reports, special project and chart auditing as requested.
  • Processes requests for release of information in accordance to hospital policies and state and federal regulations.
  • Retrieves charts for delivery to units and or reviews/audits and outside storage as appropriate.
  • Retrieves transcribed/scanned documents as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
